Adults in Georgia, Smyrna has been historically one of the fastest growing cities in Georgia, and one of the most densely populated cities in the Atlanta metro area with over 54,000 residents. Smyrna is part of the metro Atlanta area, located about 10 miles northwest of downtown. Smyrna is just west of the northern intersection of I-285 and I-75. Smyrna is also close to the cities of Vinings, Marietta, Mableton, Sandy Springs, and the Buckhead district of Atlanta.
The city is located near I-75, I-20, and I-285, just 15 minutes from downtown Atlanta, and 30 minutes from Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport. The Cobb Community Transit (CCT) bus system provides public transportation for residents with links to the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rapid-rail network.

The region supports several large hospitals. Smyrna's largest heath care center is WellStar Kennestone Hospital, one of only four designated trauma centers in metro Atlanta. The system's emergency center is the second busiest in Georgia.
The City of Smyrna's Village Green and Market Village include 33 acres of surrounding parks and green space within one mile of downtown. The city boasts over 300 total acres of park and green space.
The downtown Village Green Community Center features two gyms and exercise equipment. Market Village in the city center often has open-air concerts and festivals. There are also various small parks such as Cobb Park, public pools, tennis courts and playgrounds and walking trails.
